Why modular
The requirement is usually mobility, not permanence
Defence vehicle washing has the same problem as a mining expansion or a highway project: the wash point has to exist where the vehicles are, and the vehicles move. A permanent bay ties the capability to one location.
- Rapid deployment — bolted assembly on a prepared hardstand rather than a civil contract
- Modular construction — the pad is built from standard 2200 × 3000 mm modules, sized to the vehicle
- Containerised equipment — pumps, treatment, storage and controls in an ISO container that ships with it
- Relocation — dismantled, transported and re-erected when the unit or the task moves
- Different load classes — light utility, tactical trucks, and heavy or specialised vehicles each get the structure they need
Vehicle classes
Which structural class for which vehicle
All three classes share the 2200 × 3000 mm module, the integrated containment and the galvanised finish. What changes is the load-bearing structure underneath.
Light utility vehicles
Base and campus fleets, light 4×4s and small utility vehicles — on the light-duty structure, which is not paying for capacity it will never use.
Light dutyTactical trucks
4×4 and 6×6 trucks and general transport, in the approximately 18–25 t class — the medium-duty structure, and the most common requirement.
Medium dutyArmoured & engineering vehicles
Heavier platforms, engineering plant and heavy transport on the reinforced structure, confirmed against individual wheel and track loads.

Utility vehicles
Light base and campus fleets, washed routinely rather than before inspection.
Tactical trucks
4×4 and 6×6 trucks and utility vehicles — the bulk of most wash programmes.
Armoured vehicles
Heavier platforms, confirmed against wheel and track loads before the rack is quoted.
Engineering vehicles
Plant and special-purpose engineering equipment, usually the muddiest on the base.
Heavy transport
Heavy haulage and transporter equipment, checked individually.
Off-road equipment
Vehicles working off formed surfaces — which is where the solids loading comes from.

Vehicles off formed ground bring the ground with them
Military vehicles working off-road carry soil, clay and vegetation in the same quantities as earthmoving plant. That makes solids handling a design input rather than an accessory — and it makes containment the thing that turns a washdown into a controlled, repeatable procedure.
- Sludge-capable pumping, and a scraper conveyor where solids loading justifies it
- Water collected within the rack, so the hardstand underneath is not being progressively undermined
- Contained washdown supports soil and seed control when vehicles move between areas
- Three-sided splash containment where overspray has to stay on the pad
